The
closing date for applications for 2010 has now passed
Our
commitment to research
Since its foundation in 1968 The Association has given
over £2.5 million in research grants to projects in the UK. Members,
in a recent survey, confirmed that they feel that this is a crucial
part of the work of the Association and we continue to raise funds for
this purpose.
We are able to contribute to research in this way thanks to the fundraising
efforts of individual members and Branches over the years as well as
major legacies and large donations.
We believe the Association has a key role to play in supporting smaller
projects as well as offering grants to projects in the development stage.
Such projects have been able to attract further major funding from other
sources as a result of our early 'pump priming'.
The Association remains committed to supporting innovative and informative
research projects that will improve the lives of people living with
psoriasis. For this we need to work in partnership with the research
community as well as continuing the appeal for donations.
Applications are now invited for research grants which
offer advancement in the basic causes of psoriasis and/or increased
understanding about psoriasis and its treatment.
Project
Grants
These are available for research programmes up to 2 years in length
to a maximum of £40,000 for each year (total £80,000).
The closing date for applications for 2010 has
now passed.
Applications are welcome from all disciplines with an interest
in psoriasis and all applications will be judged on scientific merit.

Research you can help with
•
http://www.psoriasisuncovered.co.uk/
- Adults with psoriasis in the UK are invited to complete this
anonymous questionnaire to help better understand just how psoriasis
affects people’s lives in the UK.
A similar survey is being conducted across Europe to compare the experiences
of people with psoriasis in various countries. The results will be launched
in the UK by the end of 2009 to GPs, dermatologists and the wider public.
•
University
of Brighton online survey - Researchers at the University
of Brighton are interested in the use of Complementary Therapies in
psoriasis. Please take five minutes to complete the following survey
regardless of whether you have used Complementary Therapies or not.
The study aims to investigate if people with psoriasis in the U.K. have
tried any complementary or alternative medicine (CAM), what they have
used and if they have found it effective. Participants will remain anonymous
and all information will be treated as confidential.

University
of the West of England -
Researchers from the University of the West of England, Bristol are
carrying out extremely valuable work investigating the way families
deal with each other and family life when one or more of the members
of the family have a visible difference of appearance. The hope is we
can learn from the current experiences of families to help other children
to deal with difficult experiences in the future. We
are looking for children aged between eight and eleven years
old, who have Psoriasis and live in the Bristol or
Reading areas, who can help with this project. Children and
parents will be asked to fill out some questionnaires. For more information,
