UVB unit for home therapy.

Hi everyone, I have UV light canopy that I’m now selling. It’s a 9xTL01 unit, which was purchased in May from “Much Better Skin” (the link to the same unit below). https://treatpsoriasistl01uvblamps.co.uk/shop/canopies/upvc-canopy-with-up-to-9-philips-tl01-narrowband-tubes/ Its working fine, and has been used approximately 50-ish times. I’m selling it because I’m starting a medication, and cannot use UV anymore (previously I’d had UV exposure at a hospital - so I’m thinking I’m getting close to the maximum allowed really). Open to offers. I’ll be putting it on eBay today, too. (I’m based in Essex)

Hi I am new to this forum. I am intending to purchase a UVB lamp as my psoriasis is spreading all over my body. Can anyone please advise where and what type of lamp would be best or looking for any second hand ones? Thanks

To keep costs down do exactly what I did Rather than buy a lamp and tubes which is expensive ,buy a second hand sun bed or canopy and just purchase and fit the tubes yourself .

Wait... The tubes can be used in any sunbed? I had no idea.. Thought it needed to be a special unit!

Yep , I bought a cheap double sunbed , Purchased 18 tubes and turned into a sun shower hahaha Exposure time is at 6mins 30 now so will need to re tube soon, as I've had them for about 10 years. Ill just buy 18 tubes and im sorted

Hi, good to hear many people are getting better with their home treatment! I've ordered my 5 tube canopy from MBS. Its the full length one sided, not curved one, slightly narrower than the 9 tube one. I have bad skin all over whole body, I am very small/slim. I will obviously need to do my front, then my back but do I also need to do each side of my body too, or will they get done doing the front then back. If so do I do it for less time than doing the front/back or the same? I'm very fair, burn easily, so I will start at the bottom of the scale. Is it 10 percent or 10 seconds you increase the time by when ready? Thank you.

Hi VIcky. you can just turn slightly and do the sides thats what I do, or try front back then sides if they are bad. im at the stage i put it on for 2 mins and just spin around every few times. start slow, its different from a normal sunbed, it will burn if you try it for say a minute. hope that helps. xx

Hi Jackie, thanks for your reply. Yes that is really helpful, thanks for that! Not got it yet & its been about 7 years since I used the hospital cubicle one. Was not sure of what info is in the instruction book when it comes! Thanks again & good luck with your treatment x

I dont remember if I got instructions with mine, but had been told when I phoned to inquire about it. I have burned a few times in the beginning, as I was impatient and put it on for a minute thinking I would be ok and didn't turn around but not badly, its like a sunburn.. It will take a few weeks to see a difference but it will happen. Over the few years of having mine, I just use it now a few months of the year for maintenance. Good Luck hope it goes well x

personally so you know exactly how much exposure time each side is getting i would do the following turn lamp on to say 5 mins face the tubes and start a stop watch , after 30 secs , put sun factor on your face then turn and do left side for 30 secs then turn and do back for 30 then turn and do the right side for 30 if your only small id also try and stand on platform of some sort cos the lower shins and feet will not be exposed to any light due to the lamp casing i made one from old decking boards and placed a piece of carpet on it for comfort , you will know what i mean when you receive it , the platform only need to be 5 inches in height . putting factor on your face will obviously prevent burning cos your face will be exposed when doing your sides too . start on small exposure times and increase by 5 secs a day . thats what id do with new tubes good luck

Carljones640 My bed from MBS Only has a timer for 4 minutes I have never or will never max to 4 minutes I was never advised to use sun cream on face I all ways cover face I know someone who was referred to hospital and they had to use a face shield For full protection And all ways use the Google’s for eye protection that came with the bed

Wow I didn't know that, wonder why thats advised. I definitely need new tubes , I'm on 7 minutes now for each side I have had them over 10 years though. Investment required I think , chrizzy prezzie haha

My canopy only has a timer for 3 mins, if I stood in one position for 3 mins guaranteed I would burn. And I have been using it for 2 yrs. Are you sure you have narrow band uvb tubes? lifespan is 1000 hrs

Thanks for your info, very helpful. I will let you all know how I'm getting on in a few weeks time. Thanks all!

Yep there the Philips TL-01 100w tubes , bought from a specialist company in Sweden at least 10 year ago when I couldn't source them from anywhere on the UK
