PsoWell Training Course
PsoWell took place in eight locations across the UK and aimed to teach dermatology specialists & psychologists new skills to empower their patients to live better with psoriasis.
In 2019 the Psoriasis Association provided funding to Professor Chris Bundy and her team at Cardiff University to roll out the PsoWell (psoriasis and wellbeing) training programme for dermatology specialists and health or clinical psychologists.
The novel programme involved a one-day training event that aimed to equip dermatology specialist staff and psychologists with knowledge and motivational interviewing skills to empower patients with complex psoriasis to manage their condition effectively through lifestyle behaviour change.
Professor Chris Bundy delivered nine training sessions throughout the UK in locations including Cardiff, Harrogate, Derby, Manchester, Belfast, London, Bristol and Dundee, between October 2019 and February 2020.
We also sponsored free places to members of a dermatology team and health and clinical psychologists to attend a training day. Those who completed the training received a certificate of approval as a PsoWell Practitioner.
Feedback from PsoWell...
“I found the day really useful and will inform both my clinical and academic practice.”
(Senior Clinical Lecturer in Dermatology)
“Thank you for the fabulous course today, such a treat to be guided to step back and explore options to achieve more / better for our patients. Please pass on my thanks to Chris for her varied teaching styles and different take on communication skills, pushing all of us up a level.”
“Thank you for a highly enjoyable and educational day. We all really enjoyed it. It was really helpful having done it twice - re-enforced some things and also I took different things from it too. I’ve actually managed to shorten my consultations as a result as am not trying to achieve so much during one visit and being more focused. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to run completely to time!! Thank you again- I’d book for a third session if I could!”
"Really enjoyed the training day. I tried my new skills with patients with some good results. It’s now a work in progress."
