widespread psoriasis for 30years

i have currently had 9 treatments of uvb tlo1. My trunk which is covered with a thin layer of psoriasis is starting to pink off. My legs have hard plaque type psoriasis which are not responding so well. I was thinking of using salicylic acid to remove the scale followed by dithranol paste to assist the light treatment. Has anyone done this or used another method?

widespread psoriasis for 30years

I have just finished my UVB course at Belfast City Hospital. I asked the nurse during treatment as to when I should start to see the Psoriasis disappear, she told me approx after 10 sessions. She was 100% right from 10 sessions to 25 my skin gradually cleared. The first session was 19secs and the last 4mins 93secs. I feel healthier with clearer skin and have more energy. I would be intrested if anyone has any ideas as to how to prolong the remission period?

Plaque psoriasis over most of body: especially shins, elbows and hands.

Hello warren1. I've had 2 courses of narrowband UVB so far. The last course was 3 times a week for 10 weeks and finished in June. I start with so much of my skin covered that, even after 30 uvb sessions, it never completely disappears. However, the difference is fantastic. Sadly, on this occasion, it had started to come back by August. I try to keep it in check by moisturising and using Dovobet on the worst bits. I'd also be interested to find something that keeps it away for longer. Recently my shins got really bad again and - for the first time - I got it very badly in the palms of my hands. After a 3 week wait to see my dermatologist, I am back on the waiting list for more uvb sessions! I asked about buying a uvb lamp for home use - the consultant was not keen, mainly out of concern for people using it without supervision by medical staff. There are lots of good reports about home use on the internet - mainly in the USA. The lamps are expensive though. In the meantime, I have started a trial of adding turmeric to my diet (half teaspoon on my morning toast). I'll let you know if it helps.

itworkedforme: I am very glad to hear it worked for you ;-) I am also becoming convinced that a change in diet will improve (if not cure) psoriasis - but I think the trigger may be different for different people. For you, wheat and gluten. For me, possibly dairy. A daily dose of turmeric, I believe, helps with joints - but it does not appear to make a difference to the skin.

Hello "Fireman" You can treat psoriasis at home with your own UV lamp. I purchased a small hand-held lamp from Amazon for around £250.00. It is great - but stick to the instructions regarding time limits. Hope this helps!

Had psoriasis for many years but spreading recently,

Hi, I've used sunbeds in the past to clear my plaques as my psoriasis isn't severe enough for a referral to hospital. It did work well for me but I limit myself to one or two courses a year due to the well known risks involved with sun bed use. Great for giving your confidence a boost before a holiday. I did 3 minutes 4 times a week for about a month.

I have plaque psoriasis all over my stomach and back moderate to servere

Hi, I am to start my UV treatment at the hospital in 2 weeks. I have P lesions covering most of my stomach/back/shoulders. I am mid 20's and recently developed psoriasis and over the past 6 months it has continually got worse. By the sounds a lot of people have had positive experiences with UV treatment. I was wondering if people drink alcohol whilst having the treatment or I this hampers the affect UV treatment will have. I have cut my alcohol down to only a few nights out a month, but was wondering if others have found whether or not this would disrupt the affect of UV?

plague psoriasis since 2008

I found it absolutely great. It takes 2-3 weeks to work as they start you on a low dosage. Put lots of moisturiser on afterwards.

I have had psoriasis for 5 years, and am struggling to control it and find it very hard to manage. It is very sore on my elbows and bottom a

I had treatment with U.V.B. in November last year it made a small difference while I was having treatment but as soon as I stopped it came back worse than ever. Since then I have been so sore and itchy, have been off work for five weeks now and still no sign of improvement,it makes me very sensitive to things. Spring is almost here I should be looking forward to it but my arms are covered in it and my legs. God I sound depressed, I have my moments, Im okay I mostly stay positive. I think my next step will have to be Ciclosporin with its many side effects, I have heard good feedback about it, as they say if needs must.

Started roughly 8 years ago. now 33 and its not getting any better. I don't want in 10 years time to be covered in it!

Hi there, I have had P for some 8-9 years now and tried various creams and lotions etc like everyone. I left it for some years when i was out of the country and its getting a little worse now. I've begun again to look into solutions and UV is one of them. May be a daft question but is skin cancer a worry woth UV treatment?

Great question - skin cancer is problematic with UVA treatment. There doesn't appear to be a safe dose or number of treatment sessions and should be very wary if have very pale skin/red hair. Before using it any good dr or nurse should explain the risk. In general, try and find something else but if no alternative use with caution. UVB - less of a risk. Once had it explained to me as a course of treatment being same as a 2 week beach holiday! Still have to be careful as it is a matter of cumulative doses over the years bearing in mind we all get natural UVB (or at least when the rain finally stops). Again, medics should explain to you about risks and how to behave during treatment before starting it. Generally, I wouldn't worry too much about UVB and just exercise common sense and caution and don't sunbathe while undergoing treatment. Chance being a fine thing in this country.....!

To cut a long story short, psoriasis ruined my life when i was just a teenager.

My first course of UVB cleared the psoriasis after about 6 weeks of the 8 week course but, it started coming back 7-10 days after treatment ended. Second course cleared it and it stayed clear until 3 weeks after treatment ended. I'm due for my third course in April, I'm hopeful that it'll stay away for longer this time but it's important i don't eat the wrong type of foods that can cause a flare up. For me it's dairy, tomatoes and MSG's, for some reason. But there's something else and I'm trying to pinpoint the other causal factors. I know UVB isn't a cure, but it's the most effective treatment I've had so far.If only it went into permanent remission I'd be able to start living a normal life instead of covering up. Ideally with the right diet I'd like to prevent it rather than have to treat it if i can.

plaque psoriasis, various sized patches on various parts of body.

I have it since I was 10. That's almost 30 yeas now. I had it all over my body - now the situation is much better.

All that is told here about different treatments with UV light and some creams ... all is correct. But it keeps coming back to you because you and your doctors all together do not understand the primal reason why and how you got your psoriasis. It's all about the Candida. So take a look on Internet about the anti-candida diet. One mentioned that gluten free and wheat free diet really helps - it is true. Some said that it was diary free diet - it is especially about milk-free diet. Yoghourt and other fermented drinks are actually helpful in beating psoriasis. I am about 4 months on this Anti-Candida Diet and it really helps. The diet has few stages - first you starve your candida (with no sugars), then you start with the real anti-candida treatment (pro-biotic yoghurt, turmeric, origin oil, fish or linen oil ..., citron seed extracts ... ) the list is long, but most importantly you have to cancel all sugar and all foods that easily and quickly dissolve into sugar (like white bread, for example, but also rice, potatoes, ...) Besides the strict diet, I also use some creams (the same that I used before), in order to speed up the process - but now the psoriasis never comes back at those healed places. I slowly reintroduce rice and potatoes in small quantities, but still no sugars of all kinds (no soda drinks, for example) and no bread (well except on some holidays, I treat myself with some, let's say once per month). But when compared with what I was eating before I started with my anti-candida diet (everyday a lot of sugar and bread) - it's no wonder psoriasis was coming back after all kinds of partially successful treatments. I noticed first improvements after 3 or 5 days. After a month it was visible by anybody else. Hope this will help to many of you!

I have plaque psoriasis all over my stomach and back moderate to servere

I just finished 8 weeks of UVB treatment. I had P all over stomach/back and it only took about 4 weeks to basically disappear. I only have 2 small patches left. I also cut out sugars, dairy etc out of my diet 6 months ago. This reduced the angryness of the P but didnt get rid of it until the UV treatment. I still am eating extremely healthy and am hoping it stays away for quite a while. Mouisture as often as possible (I have been about 5 times daily), especially with UV treatment and put an oily moiusturiser on overnight if possible.
