Psoriasis on face, how to deal with it?

Hi, ive had psoriasis for years, ever since I was 14 (I’m 22 now), but it was always only on my body. Mostly chest, back and arms. Two years ago I started getting it really bad on my face and when I say bad I mean awful. What started off as patches on my face turned into one big “patch” that completely covered my face. It looked like my normal skin was the “patch” (because there was only a small portion of it on my forehead). The GP gave me some steroid cream for it and it went away in about 2-3 weeks. Anyway it’s come back just as bad as back then if not worse because it’s now in my hairline/scalp too. I went to the doctor to get the stuff that worked last time but it’s not working this time. It’s been over a month and the skin on my face is still so bad and painful. I’m really not sure what to do at this point. It’s making me not want to leave the house because of how it looks and feels. Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with this? I’d really appreciate it.

I’m really sorry you’re so young and your psoriasis is so bad. You say your GP has prescribed steroid cream (though it doesn’t work). My experience is that my GP prescribed a number of different creams that did not help me, and then they referred me to a dermatologist as the dermatologist is able to prescribe a range of stronger creams, and also, they are a skin specialist. I wonder if you can get a referral to a dermatologist? The hard thing for me with psoriasis is that it is made worse by stress, but the psoriasis was stressing me out, so I was in a cycle that needed to be broken. I found a number of things helped me with stress. One was meditation. I found an online meditation course (free) and I did daily meditating. That helped a lot. I started having daily baths instead of showers, and discovered that Dead Sea bath salts are really good for psoriasis (and stress).. You have to soak for at least 20 mins, and you mustn’t make the water too hot. I do 1kg bag to a full tub of bath water. Then cream liberally when I get out. (I don’t use any soap or anything, just the salt water). When I say cream liberally, I mean really overdo the cream and let it be absorbed into your skin. I’m using Zerobase as many times a day as my skin needs. Also being prescribed Enstillar and Exorex by my dermatologist. There’s a whole feed on here about the positive benefits of blueberries and psoriasis. I eat blueberries every day. They’re good for the immune system so good all round. My psoriasis has not gone away completely, but it feels better than it has in ages and it is not getting worse. It’s less inflamed. You need to do the things that de-stress you, whatever those things are, music, films, reading, I really hope some of this is helpful. I would love to know how you get on.

Hi thanks for the suggestion about the salt bath, i gave that a go. Not seen any improvement but then I have only done it twice so I suppose it takes a while? My gp referred me to a dermatologist but I’m still waiting on that. Although I decided I’m going to try cutting carbs out of my diet as I read somewhere that that could help. I’ll keep you updated with how that goes.
