UVB top ups

Hi there, I am just trying to find out if anyone has cleared themselves at home using uvb therapy and now does regular sessions at home just to keep it at bay. I am almost clear but not sure if I should perhaps do a once a week session on reduced time just to stop it from coming back.

Hi! Pleased to hear that your Psoriasis has almost cleared. After UVB light treatment my condition was much improved, but it was such an inconvenience having to a. get referred b. wait for appointments c. travel to the local hospital every other day whilst a course of treatment was administered so I bought my own UVB canopy. Not a cheap purchase, but possibly the best £1300 I've ever spent. I probably wouldn't use it every week. (I'm sure a specialist dermatologist would also advise against this) Only use it when necessary and build up very gradually. Hope this helps.

Hi S, Thank you for your reply. I have purchased my own unit as I did not want to have a long wait for nhs treatment. If you have had nhs treatment before did it come back afterwards? I have read some people use weekly during the winter months whether it be a couple of times or even just a once a week short top up. I just don't want it to return once I stop using altogether. I would appreciate any tips you have for keeping it at bay.

I think it's probably down to your own judgement. I don't suppose one rule would work for everyone, since everybody reacts differently. If it starts to reappear, then use it. I don't think it ever disappears, but using the lamp should help you to control it. Overusing it would definitely be counterproductive. It's good that you could purchase a machine (in an ideal system, this wouldn't be necessary). Strangely enough, I find that just having a lamp gives a bit of reassurance/confidence in the knowledge that you CAN use it, if needed. Apologies to anyone reading this, who doesn't have easy access to a UVB lamp.

Thank you for your reply S. I came across this medical study from California which makes interesting reading. After reading this I feel more relaxed about the time it is taking for me to clear and how to main afterwards. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4972735/
