Psoriasis and link with high iron & hormone hepcidin

Hi I have had a recent outbreak for 2 years now and the previous was 4 years ago. Nothing has worked and I did not get a definitive diagnosis, I have tried steriods, light therapy, antibiotics, altered diets to cleanse gut etc. Recent blood tests have shown an increased iron level and I am awaiting confirmation of a diagnosis of Hemochromatosis, a condition where the body absorbs too much iron ( all my siblings have been confirmed to have it which was passed on genetically by both parents) Just wondering if anyone has a similar story? Best wishes Laura

University of Bath, in the UK, has been leading the way on iron-psoriasis causes and effects. Iron does seem to irritate psoriasis for some. Good read and contacts here. https://www.bath.ac.uk/announcements/a-cure-for-psoriasis-could-a-faulty-iron-hormone-in-the-skin-be-the-key/#:~:text=Iron%20is%20an%20essential%20trace,to%20hepcidin%20triggers%20iron%20overload

I’m new to the forum and just wanted to say your post caught my eye. I’ve had psoriasis for years, too, and have tried all sorts, steroids, diet changes, light therapy, without much luck. I never thought about iron levels being connected, but after reading that article Yacht shared, it’s actually kind of interesting how something like hepcidin and iron overload could be linked to skin issues. I don’t have Hemochromatosis myself, but it’s got me thinking maybe there’s more going on than we realize.
