Hi Mario and AMK. Good to hear from you, pleased your keeping good. Had Dermatology review. Having a try with Lotriderm for a few weeks. Hopefully then back to protopic. I have a anal skin tag, that may be mixing things up a bit. Will see. I'm watching diet, yes it's a big variable. Sadly miss my swimming which always caused a flare. Not tried lamp yet. Take care

Hi to all my fellow suffers, I've had psoriasis in my butt area & an anal fissure for over 15 years. I used frozen coconut for a long time. I'd heat it up, so it turned into s liquid, put it in a flat container, freeze it, chop it up into pieces. Put the best pieces into a container & kept it in the freezer. Every time I did a no. 2, I'd clean my area with a baby wipe, then insert the frozen coconut oil piece into my butt area & hold it in the area that was stinging. That would take the pain away starting away. Then I'd push the remaining bit up my butt & it will stay there. Over time the coconut oil would leak out & keep the area coated. I'd wear a stick on pad to stop any getting on my underpants. This worked well to stop & reduce the pain. But lately I've switched to using the oil out of a vitamin E capsule (not frozen). After cleaning the area, I put a throw away rubber glove on, put a hole in the capsule & squeeze out the oil on to my finger & rub it in to the sore area. This doesn't take the pain away like the frozen coconut, but since I'm used to having the pain now, and know Vitamin E oil seems to work better in the long run. Because I'm in pain, I'll sit on the edge of a chair to put pressure on my butt area for about 5 to 10 mins. the pain seems to go away after a while. Then at least I know I'll be pain free (not irritation free) till my next toilet stop. Some days I'm surprised & am even irritation free, which is nice. I still have psoriasis on other parts of my body, Coconut oil over a long time seemed to cause the area to red. But it was a great temporary natural pain relief. But Vitamin E oil capsule oil applied on the area seems to work better in the long run. Hope this helps someone 💜

Hi all, been really suffering with this and also mild lichen sclerosus on my penis, any one else have this? Anyway I was prescribed epaderm, which I apply a few times a day. I have good and bad days, my main trigger seems to be when I pass a stool it just irritates the area and throbs for the day. Exercise also seems to have a negative impact and give me worse symptoms. Having a bad day today so just reaching out. I have started taking Imodium to stop me pooping.

Hi Needhelp, sorry to hear your struggling. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post I believe a good diet goes a long way to healing and calming down these flare ups. After suffering for 3 years with persistent anal psoriasis, using strong steroid creams and immunosuppressant drugs I went on a strict diet. No alcohol, no sugary foods (very important) lots of vegetables and meat and plenty of water. I still use eumovate and moisturiser when needed but now a year in with no serious flare ups. I do now indulge in the odd alcoholic beverage and sweet treats but not too often and if I do guess what? It starts to irritate again! We are all different and what works for one might not for another but I would highly recommend giving this ago if your diet might be the issue. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice, I will give the diet thing ago. I have tried previously but maybe not gone far enough. Tough day today, just poop makes it so bad, just throbs all day!

It did take 2-3 months of being very strict before things improved. I understand watching what you eat is difficult but anything is better than the pain we have to endure. Hope it goes well.

Hi Mario64,Taila,Jayxx...how are you?? I want to know that protopic 0.1% is used alone or with moisturizer at anal psoriasis.. please reply???

Posted Fri 18 Nov 2022 12.29 by Mario64

@Rajkumar I wash with dermol 500 (sometimes alternatives if I've run out) after a bowl movement, rinse off the dermol with lukewarm water, then pat dry completely before applying protopic. I do this daily although on odd days I will not apply the protopic. I have managed it this way for years. It requires shaving the area every so often to remain effective.

I just use protopic 0.1% twice a week and that seems to work for me. If/when I stop using it, I use chamoix butter (anti chaffing cream) which is inexpensive and lasts a long time.

Hi Mario64, Jayxx.....Have you seen any kind of side effects of protopic 0.1% using several years ??? Please share your experience. Can protopic 0.1% used for several years??

I too have had no side effects I do find that Epiderm really helps me.

No side effects for me on 0.1%. my local GP was "worried" about me using it long-term but the Dermatologist found out why he was worried..... "Cost"! Apart from that, Dermatologist is happy for me to continue to use long term.

Psoriasis Cream - https://hespac.com/psoriasisen.htm Purchased this for my father, works wonderful. Takes care of all the itchy, flaky areas including the scalp. Highly recommend this product.

Hi jeterrrii31.., mometasone furate 0.1% is steroid cream. Long term used of mometasone furate cream is harmful. Please experienced people share the experience

Hi jeterrrii31 - Mometasone Furoate might be better known to some as Elocon. A strong steroid cream, one which probably a lot of doctors would advise against using in this region. Though at that frequency, you perhaps get away with it. We use protopic to try and get the same relief without having to worry about the long term effects of steroid creams. Elocon is my go to cream for particularly bad skin plaques, and also the most effective I've found for my scalp (I have a lotion version.)

jeterrrii31: there are different topical steroids that seem to be preferred by prescribing physicians for certain parts of the body. For example, I have used Elecon cream ( mometasone furate) sparingly on my genitals together with Trimovate, which also contains a steroid. This cleared that problem for me and it has not returned for over a year. I use Dovobet ointment more liberally on my knees and elbows, and more frequently. Over-use of steroids on skin can certainly cause issues. Some parts of the body are more at risk than others, but sometimes a physician might prescribe something for a particular application, and with specific instructions and a plan to check-back more often. Back in the 70s when I first came across psoriasis there was a condition commonly referred to as "Betnovate face". Betnovate was the general go-to steroid at the time, and carried warnings NOT to use on the face. But some people did use it daily on their face, and while it seemed very effective against psoriasis, it thinned the skin, leading to a red-face appearance. I did use it on my face without problem , but very sparingly and for 2-3 days then not again for a couple of weeks. I have used steroid that says "do not use near the eyes" to clear small patches of psoriasis on my eyelid. I did it with my Doctor's agreement and I used the tiniest smear twice a week for a few weeks only. It might be that using Elecon as you do - once or twice every 2 weeks would be fine, but I would suggest you discuss this point specifically with the specialist who prescribed it.

Hey everyone, I have been dealing with psoriasis all over my body for probably the past 10 years... I have been off topical steroids for probably 2ish years now and have seen an increase in flare ups. The worst of them all is anal fissures and bleeding every now and then when going to the bathroom. Been to the doctor and all they prescribe is more steroids and I have been reading that it thins the skin even more around the anus. I have seen many of you dealing with the throbbing pain of trying to go to the bathroom and I can relate much so for the past decade. Wanted to see if any of you have better solutions than steroids or if using the steroids at a steady rate has helped. Been slowly changing my diet and been moisturizing much more for the past month and haven't had much problem. Still just have pain throughout the day after using the bathroom! If anyone has any tips that would be great!
