Signs of infection?

Hi all - I suffer from scalp psoriosis which has recently had a bad flare since the birth of my baby. I'm treating it aggressively with cocois and etrivex but having recently had a bout of sepsis am really nervous about it getting infected and not spotting it soon enough. No doctor has been able to give me a straight answer as to what to look out for for infected scalp psoriosis and one has gone so far as to say she's never seen a case of infected psoriosis so not to be concerned. I currently have a swollen gland in my neck but a doc said that's likely just from inflammation. What signs of infection do you look out for and do you always get oral antiobiotic treatment or do you find topical works?
