Scalp psoriasis for 4-5 years

Hey, i just found this forum I've had scalp psoriasis for 4-5 years now, it mainly goes with stress, how stressed i am the worse it is. But i know this is horrible but within the last year or so when i'm really stressed or worried i find my self eating the skin that i've scratched off. i dont even realise i do it sometimes. But i currently live at university away from home and as im by myself most of the time its getting really bad.My heads raw all the times and im constantly eating what i scratch off. Is it common to eat the skin after scratching? My family are really supportive but its hard when there not here and they only tell me to stop or tap my hand away from my head when I'm scratching. I've tried so many different prescriptions but i've found a few tips on here that im going to try. Thanks, E

Had it since I was little. Always have been self conscious, aggravated and at times consumed with it. Now it is causing repeated infections

It was brave and honest for you to admit that. I think its more common than most would like to admit, and probably instinctual. I just wouldn't get carried away with it, especially if there's medicine on the scales you pick off.

Thank you for sharing. I font feel alone. I have scalp, and more lately body psoriasis. Especially around my breasts/stomach and I pick and eat the skin. Sometimes I’m not aware and do it in public. I am constantly shaking flakes off or scooping up and eat them. It’s shameful. I read somewhere it can be linked to OCD behaviour. Would be interested to hear how others overcame it. Thank you.

First of all, thank you for being so honest — a lot more people struggle with scalp picking than openly admit it. Stress can definitely make scalp psoriasis worse, and once the scratching cycle starts, it becomes almost automatic. You’re not alone in this. What helped some people is keeping nails very short, using distraction techniques (like holding something in your hands), and focusing on calming the scalp to reduce the urge to pick. Gentle, non-irritating scalp care alongside prescribed treatment can sometimes reduce flaking and raw areas over time. Supportive scalp serums designed to strengthen the scalp barrier may also help during flare periods — I’ve seen some helpful options through KilgourMD Promo Codes for those looking into additional scalp care support. Most importantly, don’t feel ashamed. Breaking the habit takes time, but small consistent steps really do make a difference.

Hi E, you’re not alone—many people with scalp psoriasis notice that stress can trigger scratching without even realizing it. Since you’re away at university, the extra stress might be making it worse. Try small stress-relief habits like mindfulness, keeping your hands busy, or using gentle scalp care products. It may also help to speak with a dermatologist for better guidance. Also, as a student, saving money on everyday shopping can reduce some stress too.
