It's Healthcare Science Week!

In celebration of Healthcare Science Week, take a look at the some of the ways we are accelerating innovative psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis research.

Healthcare Science Week (9-15 March 2026) is an NHS England campaign showcasing a diverse workforce, stretching from academic research to patient-centred service transformation.

Our three main research goals are to better understand what causes psoriasis, improve how it’s treated and managed, and ultimately find a cure. Most recently, we have advanced our progress towards these goals this by:

Developing a 2025–2030 research strategy

This bold and ambitious strategy supports research that makes a real difference in people’s lives.

Earlier this year, an innovative study conducted by experts at Newcastle University and Queen Mary University of London used ‘state-of-the-art AI technology to find genetic patterns’ connected to psoriasis – our Research Manager, Melinda Spencer, said:

“The discoveries from this research provide real hope for treatments that will make a meaningful difference to Psoriasis Association members and the wider public affected by the condition. Our organisation is proud to promote and support research that drives meaningful advancements in the treatment and management of all types of psoriasis, ensuring progress that benefits everyone living with the condition."

Funding PHD students

We launched our PhD Studentship grant in 2007 and have continued our support of early career psoriasis researchers since then. Our PhD students often attend our annual conferences to share their findings with other healthcare professionals and members of the psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis community.

At our 2026 conference, three students will be presenting on their latest projects . We can’t wait to find out more about their work!

Promoting research opportunities

If you want to take part in research or share your experiences to help further understanding of psoriasis, we promote a range of opportunities run by researchers based in UK academic institutions and/or NHS Trusts.

This week, we made members of the community aware of an opportunity to support a leading psoriatic arthritis study, 100% from home.

Other recent studies we have promoted include a short, anonymous survey around sexual health, trialling an self-guided online help tool, and a study into long-term chronic skin conditions.

The best way to stay informed on upcoming research opportunities is to join our research network, so that we can keep you updated by email about the latest studies as and when they arise.

You can find out more about our research network on our website, or email research@psoriasis-association.org.uk if you have any questions or would like to join.
