Steroid cream in the long term

Hi all
Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on using Steroid cream in the long term. I have been using several ointments in recent years such as - Dovenex, Estillar, Protopic for face etc.
I also tried Psorsex (Clobetasol) which i believe is from Brazil/USA but dont think its available in the UK. This seemed to be the only steroid cream which has ever really worked but i believe it is very strong - can anyone confirm?
I was told by a dermatologist when i asked the question about the damage of steroid cream in the long term (mainly for Torso) and they stated that this part of your body has thick layers of skin so is ok to use.
Whats everyone's thoughts?

the only part of my body that seems to have been effected by steroids is my arms ,they seem to bruise easier because the skin becomes thinner ( it also does with age )
