Help with cramps

Posted Wed 13 May 2020 12.32 by Rich

Hi I’ve had psa for for over 10 years and take a weekly injection which is really helping which I’m so happy about. My current problem seems to be is body cramps wether it’s cleaning my teeth and my arm cramps up or twisting and I get it in my ribs. Just like to know if anyone else has had issues with this problem. My specialist has only said to try drinking tonic water which unfortunately is not my favourite drink. Thanks in advance for any advice. Richard

Richard I was getting terrible Cramps where my Feet would literally lock and someone suggested i take a Magnesium Tablet . I take one a day and they have eased the cramps up completely . .Its worth a shot i purchase mine from Amazon and they don't cost much . They are called Magnesium 500mg and there are 90 tablets in the pack i buy Thats the only trouble with taking certain treatments they have side effects ,I was on Acitretin for my Psoriasis it made all my nails crumble,my hair fall out , and i developed severe sciatica .. I now always read for the side effect and look for soething to counteract them

Rich: my mother used to take quinine tablets, prescribed by her GP. (That is also why your GP told you to drink tonic water - hopefully a brand that does actually contain quinine). She only needed one tablet each night before sleep. Perhaps increase your daily water intake also.

Hi thanks for your time to reply to my question I will bare it in mind. As a few people not only on here have said to try magnesium tablets I’m going down that road first and fingers x it works if not I’ll give your advice a go. Thank you very much

You can also get magnesium in a spray form, apparently the body absorbs this better than tablets. Not that I'm an expert! Hope it helps.

Psoriasis 40 years, most treatments tried over this time, currently on biologics (stelara) as nothing else work.

Magnesium for cramps and it is worth trying Omega 3,6 &9 for pain. My rhumi said they are better than any pain relief.

Hi Just a quick update I’ve been taking the magnesium tablets for 5 days now and I can tell you on day 2 I noticed a massive improvement in the cramps I still can notice its there at times but no way near to what I use to get. One thing I must mention and I don’t know if it’s connected but in the last few days I’ve been getting a upset stomach hoping it’s not a side affect. Thanks again for all your advice. Richard

Rich: from a major medical website: " In some people, magnesium might cause stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and other side effects.". Some sites also include bloating in that list. You could try a lower dose? You might need to adjust things according to your sensitivity. Vitamin C can also cause diarrhoea in high doses that some people recommend. For example, I can tolerate 1000mg a day, even twice a day, but if I take that dose 3 times a day I do get diarrhoea.
