Methotrexate

MTX absolutely saved me . Psoriasis had taken over my life. Interestingly, my dermatologist refused the MTX treatment and only wanted me on new, very expensive ones. I changed doctors , started the MTX and was completely clear in 3 weeks. One year later, same dose, Psoriasis under excellent control. Folic acid takes care of side effects. Grateful!

I used methotrexate many years ago 3 small pills a week. It's been so long ago I can't remember the dosage but it absolutely did clear my skin and I had no side effects. The doc who prescribed it was very reluctant saying it could cause liver damage so I had to have a liver panel every month. Between the cost of the med and the labs and no insurance at the time I had to quit taking it. But if there is an option for anyone to get that medicine it does indeed work. I don't know why it's not prescribed more often. If doctors would really see the impact psoriasis has on our lives maybe they would have more empathy. Right now I'm on a biologic, may glow in the dark at some point but I don't care, it's all worth the risk. And I would definitely go back to mtx if need be it's all about getting someone to prescribe it.

I've been on MTX a couple of times and found it very effective for Psoriasis, but not so much for my Psoriatic Arthritis. It also seems to disagree with my liver, so each time I got taken off fairly quickly. Very important to keep up with your blood tests when on MTX.

Methertrexate does not treat psoriatic arthritis it does clear your skin by a blanket effect turning down every single cell in the body when the actual culprit is the tumour necrosis factor . Witch is why biological is the only sure fire way
