Hi, I’ve just been diagnosed with guttate psoriasis (I already have plaque psoriasis but has been under control for years). It started as a small red spotty batch on my torso and 7 days later it’s all over my torso, arms and hands and it appears to be still getting worse.
I just wanted to know other people’s experience of guttate and when it will stop getting worse? I feel like it’s going to take over my whole body soon and it’s scary.
I’ve been prescribed a very potent steroid, and vitamin D ointment. i’ve only been using it for a couple of days, but it doesn’t seem to be helping and the itch is terrible. Just looking for some reassurance that the treatment will work and the spots will eventually at least stop spreading.
Thanks

I first got guttate psoriasis about 8 years ago. Can confirm it was the worst experience of my life, no idea what was happening and was covered from head to toe. Super itchy, super painful, and made me feel crap. To make it worse, I had just broken up with a girlfriend and was feeling super lonely and didn't feel like I could talk to anyone about it.
The first outbreak lasted about 3 months. No cream/medical interventions worked (I tried several steroid creams, etc). However, I quickly realised that stress and diet were my triggers. Diet control (dairy, gluten, corn, coffee, alcohol, onion, garlic, and tumric [weird, I know] were all off the list), and just chilling out a bit did the trick, and it went away. The other thing that made a massive impact was sunlight, but a sunbed or UV lamp will do the trick if you cannot get away to somewhere hot.
I still get flair-ups now and then, but they always go away. It is easy to look back and know that it will get better, but being in the trenches that first time is tough, and my heart goes out to you.
Basically, it will seem really crap right now, but it will get better (and fast once it starts to go).

Thank you for your reply, it’s a lonely experience even with my family around, so can’t imagine how hard it was for you. It just doesn’t seem to stop, it’s even on my eyelid now, I feel embarrassed going out in public now and I’ve only had it for 8 days so far. I think you are right about diet, I noticed eating tomatoes and sugar seems to make it worse . My doctor has referred me to dermatologist, so hoping to see them soon. It’s a bloody nightmare that has come out of nowhere, but I’m glad yours cleared up, even if it did take months, I’m just scared it won’t go, but sounds like that would be very unusual.
