Hi everyone,
I'm 21, and have had psoriasis since I was 12. I have unfortunately been using clobetasol for 8 years to manage my psoriasis through my teenage years, without knowing the real impact it was having on my skin. I near enough quit all steroid creams in summer last year, only using it here and there, and am now looking for alternative treatment, as the rebound flare following years of steroid use is just completely unmanageable, ruining day to day life.
my derm appt is on the 1st may at royal London hospital, I am anticipating they'll try and put me on methotrexate or something similar. my only concern is that I am aware they only allow this for women if you are on birth control due to the effects it can have on a foetus. Going on any type of birth control is not an option for me, so im wondering if anyone has any experience with this / what the alternatives they offer are. I would love to try biologics but understand that they rarely give this out without trying tablets first. I wonder if anyone has any success in going straight to biologics, or to biologics after phototherapy? I think they'll offer phototherapy first anyway but ive had sunbeds lots to try and help my skin so this may be too risky / another short term fix anyway.
if anyone has any experience with this process / advice or input id love to hear !
han :)
