New methotrexate information sheet available

A new information sheet on Methotrexate is now available online, and to request as a hard copy.

This resource, produced as part of our commitment to providing accurate, good quality information, outlines how to use methotrexate, who should use it, and some tips to consider before deciding to take this medication.

Methotrexate (also referred to by the brand names Jylamvo, Metrex, Methofill, Metoject, Nordimet and Zlatal) belongs to the group of medicines known as 'systemics' in the treatment of psoriasis.

It is used to treat widespread psoriasis, as well as moderate to severe psoriasis that has not responded to, or is unsuitable for, topical treatments or UV therapy.Methotrexate can also be prescribed for psoriatic arthritis – in such cases, it is known as a ‘Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug’ (DMARD).

Methotrexate can only be prescribed by a Dermatology or Rheumatology Specialist who is responsible for your care. It is usually taken in tablet form once a week, on the same day each week. Sometimes it is taken as a liquid that you swallow, or as an injection, also once a week.

To find out more about Methotrexate, including information on potential side effects and other things to be aware of, you can download the full information sheet or email mail@psoriasis-association.org.uk to request a hard copy.
