Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) Meeting – Tuesday 7 July 2026

The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) is hosting an online meeting next Tuesday – join for free and have your say!

The Scottish Medicines Consortium is part of Healthcare Improvement Scotland. Their role is to offer advice to the NHS in Scotland about the clinical and cost-effectiveness of new medicines.

This includes:

  • How well medicines work
  • Which patients would benefit from receiving certain medicines
  • How well the medicine works and how safe it is to use
  • How taking the medicine affects the quality of a patient’s life
  • How much the medicine costs compared to the other treatment options.

SMC meetings are open for members of the public to attend. This is to help people to learn how they look at all available evidence before approving a medicine for use in the NHS in Scotland.

There will be up to 25 members of the public attending the meeting, with representatives from pharmaceutical companies and patient groups.

If the meeting is oversubscribed, priority will be given to members of the public and patient groups.

You can register to attend the next meeting on the SMC website. For more information about attending an SMC meeting as a member of the public, you can read their factsheet.
