Flying long haul with fridge temperature biologic

Does anyone have any experience flying long haul with their biological that needs to be kept refrigerated? Most airports recommend keeping it in the original packaging, but as I need a few months supply to take with me this means it’s very bulky. The airline say it needs to be small enough for the whole cool bag to be kept in the fridge. Has anyone had issues travelling with their biologic when not in the original box but with the pens individually labelled etc? Thanks!

Hi MM I travelled with the pens still in their boxes. I bought the coolbox from Medcool its made for 36 Hrs. I travelled to Oz on the cheap 28 hrs, I took 4 pen boxes and the only problem I had was at Manchester airport security. If the box is opened even only for a short period it needs to cool the interior down again. I had all documentaion with me including phone nrs. I said I preferred if the box was not opened but the young lady said she would have to check with her manager. Who made me open the box and remove a pen from its box then put it through the scanner!!! Never again will I use possibly the worst airport I have ever travelled through. I flew lufthansa to Munich the cabin crew were not interested. Then on to Singers with Singapore airlines where the cabin crew were not only very helpful but also put the box in the chiller. Singers airport and the airline are voted nr1 in the world. Same in Oz no problems. Box went through various scanners without being opened. So dont fly from Manchester! I am 77 yrs and was in a wheelchair.

Hi SF Thanks for the reply and your experience. I’ll be flying from London via Dubai so fingers crossed it goes ok. I was also going to buy a cool box from Medcool but due to the size of the boxes for my biologic the airline won’t allow me to travel with a cool box that size unless I forfeit bringing anything else as carry on. Not really possible on such a long flight! In the end I bought the 4Allfamily portable meds fridge. Keeps meds between 2-8 degrees with a power pack. Means I will need to remove the pens from the box but temperature is guaranteed as least.
