@Adele, it is not a question that can be answered with a simple yes or no. We do need vitamins for our bodies, but most medical people believe that supplements are not necessary if we eat a reasonable diet. But of course the supplements industry is absolutely massive, so there is a lot of advice and advertising from parties with a vested interest - and in gerneral there are probably a great many people taking a cocktail of supplements every day that they do not need and that make no difference to their health , only to their wallet. One vitamin supplement does seem to be generally recommended, even medical people generally do recommend to take supplementary Vitamin D in the UK. Beware, some people believe that vitamins are good for you and SO they bel;ieve that you can not take too much of any vitamin supplement. They also believe that any excess that your body does not need or use will be excreted out of the body. This is incorrect and potentially even dangerous. SOME vitamins are water-soluble, and if you take more than your body needs, the excess will be passed out in your urine, as IS the case with vitamin C for example. But too much vitamin C can still upset your stomach and give your diarrhoea. SOME vitamins, such as A and D, are fat soluble, and if you take more than your body needs on a daily basis, the excess is stored in the fat of your body. Excess vitamin A is toxic, and vitamin D can harm your health if taken in mega doses over quite a short time. If you keep to the dosage recommended, for example, by the NHS (see their website) you should be perfectly OK.
