Skin of Colour (SOCTUK) Conference

We were delighted to be invited to attend the first in-person Skin of Colour (SOCTUK) pre-meeting at the Royal College of Physicians in London in January.

A sign with text and imagesSOCTUK, which was formed during the COVID-19 pandemic, consists of a team of Dermatologists of varying backgrounds with a shared passion for seeing Skin of Colour Dermatology integrated into the education landscape in the UK.

The theme of their Annual Conference this year was "Getting It Right the First Time," with a focus on the correct assessment and management of patients with skin of colour from the beginning.

While the main part of the meeting was aimed at Health Care professionals (HCPs), the pre-meeting, which we were invited to attend, was aimed more at professionals outside of healthcare (e.g. hairdressers, aestheticians, patient support groups and the general public), who are interested in learning about dermatological concerns in skin of colour.

It was an excellent day filled with informative talks and presentations from a host of expert speakers including Dr Dami Jagun and Dr Cristina Psomadakis with discussions focussing on the management of skin conditions in darker skin tones, especially in hair and aesthetics.

Wed like to offer a huge thank you to SOCTUK and the British Association of Dermatologists for the invitation to the event and to all the speakers who gave of their knowledge and experience so generously on how to best treat and support patients with skin of colour.
