Elections in Scotland and Wales – An opportunity to make a difference
Results for yesterday’s elections in Scotland and Wales are due later today, providing a perfect opportunity for you to reach out to your new local representative in the coming days about your experiences with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).
Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) and Members of the Senedd (MSs) have been chosen to listen to local people about the things that matter most to them – and by sharing your thoughts with your representative directly, you can help our community to raise crucial awareness.
How can I get involved?
We’ve written a template you can use to communicate with your local MSP or MS – which you can customise however you like. You can mention specific experiences or concerns, such as waiting times or difficulties accessing treatments, or instead talk more broadly about how psoriasis and PsA impacts your day-to-day life. If you are a friend or family member of someone living with psoriasis, we would love for you to write to your local representative too.
However you decide to express your thoughts, it’s important for newly elected officials to understand how many people in Scotland and Wales are affected by these conditions. This will allow them to get an accurate picture of any specific issues within their constituency and ensure these are addressed within the new Scottish and Welsh governments.
Visit the Scottish Parliament website to find your local MSP, and the Senedd website to find your local MS.
Arthritis Awareness Month – a campaign led by Arthritis UK
Alongside people with arthritis, Arthritis UK have produced a manifesto for Scotland and a manifesto for Wales, each setting out actions for these new Governments to address concerns over musculoskeletal (MSK) health head on.
You can also share their manifesto with your newly elected representative, calling on them to help make arthritis a priority:
