Jonathan - Late onset psoriasis

For Psoriasis Awareness Week 2020, Jonathan shared his experiences of psoriasis, having first developed the condition at the age of 60.

Hello, I’m Jonathan Swift, and I'm what you might call a late developer. My father had psoriasis very badly. My wife, my son and my daughter all suffer. Having lived with all of them I was very conscious from an early age of their physical and emotional discomfort which, of course, accompanies psoriasis. But then I was surprised, first of all that I didn't have it, and now that I have.

I am a Psoriatic. Touched for the very first time when I was 60!

My GP told me I would have to learn how to live with it. "Scratch if you want to, but not too hard" he said. There was nothing he could do but give me some topical creams, and said “it will probably go away”, but so far it hasn’t!

Learning to live with psoriasis is very important. Learning why it occurs is perhaps even more important. And that’s why I volunteered to help the Association.
