Emna - An update 3 years later
When Emna first shared her psoriasis story, she hoped to help others feel less alone. Now, as a newly qualified nurse whose research focused on psoriasis, she is using her experience and knowledge to make a difference for people living with the condition.
My name is Emna Khalfaoui, and a few years ago you shared my psoriasis story. Today, I wanted to reach out and thank you, while also sharing how much that experience meant to me.
When I shared my story, I was speaking as a young woman trying to live with psoriasis and understand its impact on my life. Being able to tell my story and have it heard gave me confidence, strength, and a sense of belonging. It reminded me that I was not alone.
Yesterday, I graduated from nursing school.
What makes this moment even more special is that my final-year research project was about psoriasis. My study focused on nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding psoriasis. Choosing this topic was not only an academic decision—it was a personal one. My own experience as a patient inspired me to learn more, raise awareness, and contribute to improving care for people living with psoriasis.
In Tunisia, awareness of psoriasis is still limited. Many people do not fully understand the condition or the challenges faced by those who live with it. Through my research and my future career as a nurse, I hope to help change that and contribute to better understanding and support for patients.
Looking back, I realize that sharing my story with the Psoriasis Association was an important step in my journey. At the time, I could not have imagined that a few years later I would be graduating as a nurse and conducting research on the very condition that has shaped so much of my life.
Thank you for giving me a voice and for the incredible work you do for the psoriasis community. I will always be grateful for the support and encouragement that your organisation provides to people around the world.
