Wendy's Story

Wendy has lived with psoriasis her whole life. Now, she manages it well and has started a blog to share her experience with others. She shared a few excerpts from it with us for Psoriasis Awareness Week.

21/9/2024 - Psoriasis is the bane of my life! I wake up in the morning, check my legs 'Has that red spot shrunk, is my skin pinker rather than red, do I still look like I've fallen in a poison ivy bush?' I actually removed a mirror yesterday as my skin looks so patchy everytime I look in it. Weird, but the mirror at my front door is a little kinder on me. I'm trying to tell myself 'Come on you got this!' and my skin is only doing its thing by protecting me but this disease is tiring.

My scalp feels like it has an itchy white helmet on it and the hair loss is worrying and making me anxious about washing my hair. Had bloods done two days ago but as usual the results have been updated and are 'normal.' I'm going to make an appointment next week and request a review, I'm not being fobbed off anymore, feel like because it meets a certain 'blood range' I'm just expected to crack on!

23/9/24 - Saw a lovely doctor today at my surgery. He listened, sympathised and took time to speak about my condition in depth. He's prescribed me some scalp potions, non steroid and says my iron levels are borderline, he wants to see me again in a week. He made me cry he was just so lovely, but on leaving  the surgery I actually felt uplifted as he agreed my hair loss is excessive and Psoriasis is quite severe, especially on my scalp. He told me not to worry though as my hair will grow back. Here's hoping! 🙏

25/9/2024 - Day 1 of greasy, smelly head nights commenced! Applied Cocois this evening, only for a couple of hours as working early in the morning. These cream applications are like another job in the diary. It's not just apply and get on with life as who wants to go out with a head full of coal tar? 😝 Oh well, at least winter is approaching and I can stick a big woolly hat on! Here's hoping for clear skin for summer, time to prep 🙏

26/9/2024 - The doctor has also prescribed Sebco coal tar prep for scalp. I remember from some years ago I preferred this over Cocois, so here's hoping it works. Tonight's an overnight treatment as I'm on a late start tomorrow. Oh, the joys!
